The thought of a first time home buyer tax credit extension was very popular in April of 2010 but there was no extension for common Americans. The government $8000 and $6500 tax credit has been extended until 2011 for those in the military. Please understand that there are many guidelines to this extension so you will need to do your research before making any assumptions.

If you are currently enlisted in the military and you are seeking a new home in the next year you may want to contact your mortgage lender and see if you qualify for the extension of the first time home buyer tax credit. There are many resources available online that can also help you to determine if you are one of those enlisted in the military that will qualify for these credits.

If you are not in the military then there is no opportunity to receive the government $8000 and $6500 tax credit. On April 30, 2010 the tax credit expired and it looks as if there will be no extension into 2011.
